URGENT UPDATE: Liberty University opened its season with a commanding victory, defeating the Maine Black Bears 28-7 on September 2, 2023, in Lynchburg, VA. The Flames surged in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points to secure the win, driven by standout quarterback Ethan Vosko.

Vosko showcased his dual-threat capabilities, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for another. He completed 19 of 33 passes for 197 yards and added 63 rushing yards on 13 carries. His pivotal 9-yard touchdown pass to Reese Smith just before halftime tied the game at 7-7.

The fourth quarter saw Liberty pull away decisively. Vosko connected with Evan Dickens for a 24-yard touchdown and Donte Lee Jr. for a 16-yard TD. Vosko sealed the victory with a 13-yard scoring run with only 2:38 remaining on the clock.

Maine opened the scoring with a thrilling 77-yard touchdown run from Sincere Baines early in the second quarter. However, the Black Bears struggled offensively thereafter, managing only two conversions on 11 third downs and committing two turnovers.

Quarterback Carter Peevy completed 13 of 31 passes for 132 yards but threw an interception. The Black Bears’ offensive woes included three failed fourth-down attempts and four punts, stifling their scoring opportunities after an early lead.

As the Flames celebrate a strong start to the season, the Black Bears will need to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how both teams adapt in the weeks ahead.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story, as both teams prepare for their next challenges in the college football landscape.
