Lovina Eicher Celebrates Grandson’s Birthday Amid Family Canning Rush
UPDATE: Lovina Eicher, a beloved Old Order Amish writer, celebrated her grandson Curtis’s sixth birthday today, September 22, 2023, during an action-packed family night that included canning and cherished moments. The festivities unfolded at the Eicher family home, where Lovina documented the day filled with joy and productivity.
At 4:30 a.m., Lovina started her day by preparing her son Joe for work. “I left him a voicemail wishing him a happy birthday,” Lovina shared, reflecting on the excitement of the day. “I can already see him when his parents let him listen to it.”
The highlight of the evening was the monthly family gathering at Ervin and Susan’s house, where Lovina gifted Curtis coloring books and a card game, making him feel special on his big day. “He was very happy about it,” Lovina noted.
By 9:30 a.m., her son Benjamin helped bring in two tubs of tomatoes and one tub of red beets harvested from their garden. “I can pickle beets and tomato chunks today,” Lovina confirmed, as the family prepared for a busy canning session.
As the rain fell steadily outside, Lovina took the opportunity to spend time with her family. Her daughter Verena arrived, and together they heated leftover pizza, while Lovina cooked the beets on the stove. The family atmosphere was warm and lively, with children playing and adults sharing laughs.
By 5 p.m., Lovina had completed her canning, processing an impressive 9 quarts of pickled beets and 18 quarts of tomato chunks. “I’m finally done with my canning,” she exclaimed, reflecting on a day full of hard work and family bonding.
Dinner consisted of leftovers, featuring fresh buttered beets from the previous day’s gathering, where the family enjoyed grilled turkey, mashed potatoes, and a variety of side dishes. Lovina’s kitchen buzzed with energy as her family continued to share meals and stories.
As the day wound down, Lovina noted, “Joe and I are ready to sit back and relax,” signaling the end of a fulfilling day filled with love, laughter, and hard work.
