Major Drug Raid Targets Fugitive Ex-Olympian Ryan Wedding
URGENT UPDATE: Mexican authorities have just seized a massive cache of drugs, Olympic medals, and high-end motorcycles during raids linked to the fugitive ex-Olympian Ryan Wedding. This operation, targeting four properties in Mexico City and the surrounding State of Mexico, reveals the extent of Wedding’s alleged involvement in a deadly international drug empire.
In a dramatic series of raids reported earlier today, law enforcement officials uncovered 62 high-end motorcycles, methamphetamine, marijuana, ammunition, and two Olympic medals. These findings are part of an ongoing investigation into Wedding, a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder who is now among the 10 most wanted fugitives in the U.S.
Authorities did not explicitly name Wedding, 44, but described the target as “a former Olympic athlete” involved in illicit activities. He has been identified as the alleged leader of a billion-dollar drug operation, believed to ship 60 metric tonnes of cocaine into Canada annually.
The raids were conducted by multiple Mexican agencies, including the Navy and National Guard, following a bilateral cooperation agreement with U.S. law enforcement. The investigation into Wedding’s criminal activities is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the urgency of his capture.
“Make no mistake, Ryan Wedding is extremely dangerous,” stated Akil Davis, assistant director of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “He’s extremely violent, and he’s extremely wealthy. We will find him, and we will bring him to justice.”
Wedding was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list in March 2023, with a reward for his capture now set at $15 million. This is the highest reward offered for any individual on the FBI’s top ten list. He is wanted for multiple charges, including drug trafficking and murder related to orchestrating several killings, including the targeted slaying of a couple near Toronto.
Recent developments reveal that Wedding’s former lawyer, Deepak Paradkar, is also under scrutiny. Paradkar is accused of advising Wedding to kill federal witness Jonathan Acebedo Garcia, who had turned against him. Garcia was shot dead in Medellin, Colombia, earlier this year after agreeing to cooperate with authorities.
As the situation unfolds, Wedding continues to evade capture, believed to be hiding under the protection of the notorious Sinaloa cartel. He has been on the run since at least 2015, when investigations first linked him to conspiracies to smuggle cocaine into Canada.
The implications of these raids are profound, not only highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking but also the dangers posed by individuals like Wedding. The emotional toll on victims and families affected by his alleged operations underscores the urgency for law enforcement to act quickly.
As authorities continue their search, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to Wedding’s capture. The investigation remains active, and updates are anticipated as law enforcement deepens its efforts.
This developing story captures the intersection of sports, crime, and international drug trafficking, marking a stark reminder of the complexities facing law enforcement agencies worldwide.
Stay tuned for more updates as this situation progresses.
