Major Fireworks Tribute to Canada Set to Dazzle Tonight at 9 PM
UPDATE: A spectacular fireworks display is set to light up the night sky over the Ottawa River tonight at 9 PM during the Les Grands Feux du Casino Lac-Leamy festival, marking a vibrant tribute to Canada. This annual event, now in its 28th year, promises an unforgettable celebration with a unique twist: Canada’s fireworks team will perform for the first time since 2022.
“This is the culmination of years of preparation,” said Julie Moffatt, CEO of Les Grands Feux. “We work year-round to create those magic moments, and seeing those ideas come to life is truly what drives us.”
This year’s festival features international competitors from Japan, Australia, and Mexico, but it’s Canada’s showcase that has everyone buzzing. Moffatt emphasized the importance of this year’s event in light of current social and economic challenges, stating that the decision to include a Canadian display was taken seriously by organizers and their pyrotechnic partners, Royal.
Canadian team member Brad Dezotell expressed pride in showcasing local talent: “Canada is home to some of the best designers in the world. Our fireworks are matched perfectly with lively soundtracks, creating an entertaining experience.”
For the first time, the Canadian display will feature an original soundtrack composed by local artists Julien Provost and Mathieu Donais from Gatineau, Quebec. “We designed the show like a movie,” Provost explained. “There’s an intro, trigger moments, and emotional highs and lows—it’s a roller coaster of emotions.”
The pair had only four days to create the score, a challenge they embraced enthusiastically. “We focus on synchronized moments, letting the fireworks explode at the right times,” Donais noted.
Each participating team will set up approximately 5,000 fireworks on a barge in the middle of the Ottawa River, connected to a sophisticated computer system that controls the timing and sequence of the display. “The festival provides pre-installed equipment, which greatly simplifies our setup,” Dezotell added.
The dazzling displays will be visible from various locations in Gatineau and Ottawa, with Parliament Hill serving as a stunning backdrop. Moffatt highlighted the beauty of the event, stating, “Our show can be seen from different places, but the Canadian Museum of History is the best spot to enjoy the combination of music and fireworks.”
In addition to the fireworks, the festival offers a range of entertainment at the museum grounds, including culinary delights, live music, light installations, and family-friendly activities. The grand finale will take place on Saturday, wrapping up this year’s vibrant celebration.
As the countdown to tonight’s show begins, excitement is palpable. The blend of Canadian pride, local talent, and breathtaking pyrotechnics promises a memorable experience for all attendees. Don’t miss this chance to witness a stunning tribute to Canada right in the heart of its capital!
