Man Dead After Assault in East Gwillimbury; Suspect Arrested
URGENT UPDATE: A man is dead and one suspect is in custody following a brutal late-night assault in East Gwillimbury, Ontario. Emergency services were dispatched to the area of Queensville Sideroad and Yonge Street at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, after receiving reports of an “assault in progress.”
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from critical injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after. While authorities have not released details about the victim’s identity, the incident has sent shockwaves through the community.
York Regional Police confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended at the scene, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Investigators believe the incident appears to be isolated, and no additional suspects are being sought at this time.
Speaking with CP24 at the scene, Duty Inspector Richard Gaudet stated, “The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. We urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to York Regional Police to contact us. If you wish to remain anonymous, please reach out to Crime Stoppers.”
Police will maintain a significant presence in the area as the investigation unfolds. Gaudet emphasized the importance of community cooperation, saying, “At this time, I cannot provide any more information, as the investigation is in its early stages.”
