Man Dies from Injuries After Assault in East Gwillimbury

URGENT UPDATE: A man has tragically died after sustaining critical injuries from an assault in East Gwillimbury. Authorities responded to a distress call at 11:25 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Queensville Sideroad and Yonge Street. The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, according to the York Regional Police.

A suspect is currently in custody, and police have stated they are not seeking any other suspects in what they describe as an isolated incident. The York police’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation as of early Saturday morning.

During a press conference held at 3 a.m. Saturday, Duty Insp. Rich Gaudet reassured the community that there would be an increased police presence in the area as they canvass for witnesses and gather evidence. “The community can expect a larger police presence while we canvass for witnesses, collect video, and gather evidence at the scene,” Gaudet remarked.
