Marc Bergevin Poised for GM Return, Says Insider Pierre LeBrun
UPDATE: Marc Bergevin is gaining traction for a potential return to a General Manager role in the NHL, according to insider Pierre LeBrun in his latest report for The Athletic. This development comes as Bergevin, who previously served as GM for the Montreal Canadiens, solidifies his standing after a series of recent successes.
Bergevin, who lost his GM position with the Canadiens over four years ago, is now positioned for a comeback. His tenure ended following a disastrous start to the 2021 season, despite leading the team to the Stanley Cup Finals just months earlier. As he entered the final year of his contract without an extension, it was evident his time was running out.
Recently, Bergevin has been making strategic moves to enhance his resume. He served as an advisor for the Los Angeles Kings and was a finalist for the GM role with the New York Islanders. Additionally, he was named GM for Team Canada at the upcoming Spengler Cup and accepted a position as an assistant to Jarmo Kekalainen with the Buffalo Sabres.
LeBrun notes that the chances of Bergevin securing another GM position are strong. As he commented, “The chances of him getting another GM job sooner or later are good.” This news is particularly crucial as the Sabres recently fired their GM, which could create a pathway for Bergevin to step into a leadership role if he continues to impress in his current capacity.
The NHL landscape is shifting, with teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs potentially reconsidering their management strategies. With the Maple Leafs under intense scrutiny for their recent performance, Bergevin’s name may resurface as a candidate should the team opt for a significant overhaul.
Bergevin’s career trajectory is on a promising upswing, and his name resonates strongly in the league as he aims to reclaim a top position.
As the NHL season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely. Will Bergevin’s strategic moves pay off? The coming weeks could reveal significant developments in his quest for a return to the GM role.
