Marengo’s Marty Mohr Launches Urgent Bid for McHenry County Board

UPDATE: Marengo Planning and Zoning Commission Chair Marty Mohr has officially announced his candidacy for the McHenry County Board, seeking the Republican nomination for District 8. This announcement, made just moments ago on Tuesday, marks a significant development in the upcoming local elections.
Mohr aims to replace current board member Larry Smith, who currently holds the seat and has announced his intention to run for reelection. District 8 represents a critical area encompassing large portions of northern and western McHenry County, including communities such as Harvard, Hebron, Richmond, Woodstock, Marengo, and Spring Grove.
In a press release, Mohr emphasized his commitment to enhancing community safety and fiscal responsibility, stating, “My career has been dedicated to identifying and mitigating risks to ensure safety and stability. I plan to bring that same proactive approach to the McHenry County Board.” His focus will encompass smart fiscal policies, responsible growth, and effective land-use planning.
Currently serving as a vice president in risk management for a national utility civil construction firm, Mohr has lived in McHenry County since 2012. He has also been actively involved in local politics as a GOP precinct committeeperson and secretary for the NorWest Townships Republican Committee. His community service includes a notable tenure as a volunteer firefighter in Bedford Township, Michigan, from 1990 to 2002, where he served as president of the Lambertville Firefighters Association.
The filing period for candidates ahead of the March 17, 2026 primary is set from October 27 to November 3, allowing candidates to circulate nominating petitions. This timeline enhances the urgency for candidates like Mohr to solidify their platforms and engage with the community.
As the election season heats up, both Mohr and Smith will vie for the support of voters in District 8, focusing on key issues that resonate with local residents. With the political landscape shifting, constituents are encouraged to stay informed about candidates’ positions and the potential impact on their communities.
Stay tuned for updates as this race develops and more candidates emerge ahead of the primary election.
