Merv Marks 43 Years at Cameco: A Legacy of Leadership and Safety

He rose from a mill trainee to the pivotal role of mill supervisor in 1998, guiding teams with his invaluable knowledge and steady leadership. His career highlights include witnessing the mill’s expansion in the mid-1980s and major upgrades in 2000, including a new high pH building for water treatment.
Reflecting on his time, Merv emphasizes the importance of teamwork, especially during challenging periods marked by industry layoffs. “The good people to be around with, good people to work with in various departments — it makes it all that much fun. After time goes by, they become like family,” he states.
Merv’s legacy is deeply rooted in safety. He has always prioritized ensuring that every team member returns home safely after each two-week rotation. “Knowing that brings happiness that I did my job right,” he affirms, highlighting his unwavering dedication to both his colleagues and the mining industry.
