Miles Craig Dominates Day One at Canadian Mixed Curling Championship
URGENT UPDATE: Miles Craig of Victoria is off to a stellar start at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, securing two hard-fought victories at the Assiniboia Curling Club on November 2, 2025. Craig’s team, featuring vice-skip Steph Jackson-Baier, second Chris Baier, and lead Sara Loken, triumphed over Jessie Hunkin of Edmonton with a final score of 5-3 in the morning draw, before narrowly defeating Brent MacDougall of Halifax 6-5 in the evening match.
The Craig crew now leads Pool B with an impressive 2-0 record, outpacing MacDougall, who stands at 1-1. Jackson-Baier highlighted the team’s chemistry, stating,
“The biggest key so far has been the team having a lot of experience playing together and knowing how to have fun out there.”
In a competitive field, Rene Comeau of Fredericton is in third place at 1-0 after defeating Eddie MacKenzie of Cornwall, P.E.I., 6-4. Meanwhile, Sean Grassie of Winnipeg, Hunkin, and MacKenzie all trail with 0-1 records. Notably, Scott Williamson of Whitehorse did not compete on Sunday.
The tournament format features two pools of seven teams in round-robin play, concluding on November 5. The top four teams from each pool will advance to the Championship Pool, starting Thursday, where every match will be crucial.
As action continues on Monday with three draws scheduled, fans and players alike are eager to see if Craig can maintain his momentum. Stay tuned for more updates as the championship unfolds!
