UPDATE: Nugget, a resilient seven-month-old mini horse, has embarked on her new life as a therapy animal, making her debut visit on Thursday at Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs, Alta.. This heartwarming milestone follows her miraculous recovery from a severe dog mauling last October.

Anita Resnechenko, Nugget’s owner, expressed her pride, stating, “She’s very level-headed and very quiet.” Residents at the lodge were visibly touched by Nugget’s presence, with one lady specifically coming out just to see her. “It’s amazing. Just the look on their faces. It just brightens their day,” shared Natalie Weisbrod from Chinook Winds Lodge.

This uplifting visit is particularly significant given Nugget’s traumatic past. Rescued by the Help Alberta Wildies Society (HAWS), Nugget suffered severe injuries from a dog attack, including deep bites on her neck and face. Darrell Glover, president of HAWS, revealed, “She was extremely dehydrated. She was just about expired.” Thanks to timely intervention and care, Nugget has shown remarkable resilience in her recovery.

Now thriving, Nugget has formed a close bond with a seven-year-old pony named Ducky, further enhancing her joyful spirit. Resnechenko has plans to get Nugget officially certified as a therapy horse, aiming to continue spreading happiness to others in need.

The emotional impact of Nugget’s journey resonates deeply, showcasing the healing power of animals in therapeutic settings. As Nugget begins this new chapter, her story serves as a reminder of hope and recovery, inspiring both the young and old alike.

Stay tuned for updates as Nugget continues her mission to bring joy and comfort to many more lives.
