UPDATE: A 35-year-old Moncton man, Edva Mascary, charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing an RCMP officer in the head, is seeking bail. The bail hearing is set for August 29, 2023, according to a recent court appearance.

On August 15, Mascary faced a total of seven charges, including assaulting Const. Marc-Antoine Latouche and two counts of resisting arrest. The incident occurred just before midnight on August 14 at a home on Fairisle Drive in Moncton, where police responded to a reported disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers encountered resistance, leading to a violent confrontation where Mascary allegedly stabbed Const. Latouche multiple times in the head. Law enforcement utilized a Taser twice to subdue Mascary, who was subsequently arrested.

Const. Latouche sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized, later being released. Remarkably, the RCMP confirmed that Latouche has now returned to work.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Mascary faces allegations of assaulting both Const. Latouche and RCMP Const. Alyssa Williams with a knife, as well as threatening a civilian witness at the scene.

Authorities are closely monitoring the developments of this case, as the upcoming bail hearing approaches. As the situation evolves, the community is left reflecting on the implications of this violent incident involving law enforcement.
