Montreal Carabins Enter New Era as Star QB Sénécal Departures
BREAKING: The Université de Montréal Carabins are set to kick off a transformative 2025 RSEQ season as they navigate the significant departure of star quarterback Jonathan Sénecal. After an illustrious career that saw him rewrite the Carabins’ record books, Sénecal’s absence marks a pivotal moment for the university football program.
The Carabins will host the Concordia Stingers in an all-Montreal showdown on Saturday afternoon at CEPSUM, signaling the start of a new chapter. This game will not only test the team’s resolve but also determine who will step into Sénecal’s formidable shoes.
With Sénecal gone, the competition for the starting quarterback role has intensified. Veteran Rakim Canal-Charles, who served as Sénecal’s backup, is in a fierce battle with promising rookie Pépe González for the vital position. Fans eagerly await the announcement of the new quarterback, as the team’s dynamics shift dramatically without their standout leader.
Head coach Marco Iadeluca remains optimistic amidst the changes. “Every year, it’s pretty much the same thing. We have about 20% of our squad changing,” he stated, emphasizing the natural cycles of college football. Despite the major transition at quarterback, Iadeluca believes the Carabins’ strong defense and effective team play will keep them competitive in the RSEQ.
This new season represents not only a challenge but also an opportunity for emerging leaders within the team to step up and prove that the Carabins’ legacy can endure, regardless of player departures. As kickoff approaches, the excitement builds for what the future holds for this storied program.
Stay tuned for updates as the Carabins embark on their new journey, showcasing resilience and determination in the face of change.
