Mooseheads Surge Past Tigres 4-2 in Thrilling Season Opener
UPDATE: In a stunning display of speed and skill, the Halifax Mooseheads triumphed over the Victoriaville Tigres with a score of 4-2 during their first matchup of the season at Scotiabank Centre last night. This rapid victory is a significant boost for Halifax, now improving their record to 6-3-0.
The Mooseheads exploded onto the ice in the first period, netting three goals within just 62 seconds. Oleg Kulebiakin kicked off the scoring frenzy at 7:34, capitalizing on a rebound after a shot from Eddy Doyle, assisted by Daniel Walters and Jasu Mensonen. Just 43 seconds later, Shawn Carrier doubled the lead, firing a shot past Tigres goaltender Gabriel D’Aigle. The blitz continued when Caylen Blake scored another goal just 19 seconds after Carrier, pushing the score to 3-0.
After regrouping, Victoriaville responded with a goal from Alexey Vlasov early in the second period, bringing the score to 3-1. However, Liam Kilfoil quickly restored Halifax’s lead at 16:54, netting his goal from the blue line with an assist from Connor MacPherson. The Mooseheads held a commanding 4-1 advantage until Egor Shilov scored for the Tigres, narrowing the gap to 4-2.
Halifax’s defense, led by goaltender Owen Bresson, who made an impressive 29 saves, managed to keep the Tigres at bay for the remainder of the game. Bresson’s performance earned him the first star of the night, while Kilfoil and Carlos Händel secured second and third star honors respectively.
The Mooseheads are set to return to the ice on Friday, October 17, 2023, facing off against the Newfoundland Regiment for the first time in franchise history. Fans can catch the action live at 7 p.m., with pre-game coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on 95.7 NewsRadio.
