Moosomin Competes in National Beautification Challenge NOW
UPDATE: Moosomin is on the national stage as the community welcomes judges for the Communities in Bloom challenge. The event is unfolding right now, with vibrant floral displays enhancing the town’s Main Street and local residents actively participating in beautification efforts.
Earlier today, July 15, 2023, judges Christine Isaac and Larry Hall arrived to evaluate Moosomin’s commitment to beautification. The town is pushing hard to impress the judges and advance toward international recognition. “We have six categories that we evaluate communities on,” Isaac stated, highlighting aspects like community appearance and environmental action.
Moosomin, which has already triumphed in the provincial challenge, aims for national glory through this competition. Last week, the Communities in Bloom Committee engaged residents in a variety of initiatives, encouraging them to tidy up yards and participate in local contests like the “most unusual planters” challenge. “Preparing for a CiB challenge brings the community together,” said local committee member Ann Norgan, reflecting on the spirit of collaboration and pride that the event inspires.
The judges’ visit is tightly scheduled, granting them only brief windows to explore the town’s offerings. “I have to say, I don’t know that I have not seen a square inch of this town at this point, but it’s all been amazing and beautiful,” Isaac remarked, emphasizing the thoroughness of their evaluation.
Moosomin’s last appearance at the national level was in 2004, marking a significant return for the community. The town’s current efforts are seen as a revival of interest in beautification since they took a break from the contest years ago, allowing a new generation to step up and carry the torch.
As the judges conclude their evaluations today, the anticipation builds. While specific outcomes remain undisclosed, Isaac noted, “[The community in Moosomin] take a lot of pride in their community, and that’s very evident.” The competition’s next phase will see the judges travel to Capreol, Ontario, continuing their search for Canada’s most beautiful community.
Moosomin’s engagement in this contest not only showcases its beauty but also fosters community spirit, making it a significant event for residents. The outcome will resonate beyond aesthetics; it symbolizes pride and unity, encouraging towns across Canada to invest in their local environments.
Stay tuned as the results of the national challenge unfold, and keep an eye on Moosomin’s journey toward potential international competition. This is a developing story that reflects the heart and resilience of community efforts across Canada.
