Motorcyclist, 20s, Killed in Late-Night Calgary Crash

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic motorcycle crash has claimed the life of a man in his early 20s in northwest Calgary late last night. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on October 22, 2023, at the intersection of 16th Avenue Northwest and 10th Street Northwest, according to the Calgary Police Service.

The motorcyclist was traveling west on 16th Avenue when a southbound SUV turned left at the intersection, leading to the devastating collision. Emergency responders rushed the young man to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was not transported for medical care.

Sgt. Sean Sherman of the Calgary police traffic unit confirmed that preliminary investigations suggest the motorcycle’s speed was a significant factor in this fatal crash. “It’s devastating, especially for the family,” Sherman stated. “It could have been avoidable. There’s lots of things we can do as drivers, whether that be motorcycles or vehicles. The key one is we need to slow down.”

The police are actively seeking witnesses, particularly a driver who reported having dashcam footage of the incident but was unable to stop due to time constraints. Officers had already spoken with several witnesses at the scene who are cooperating with the investigation.
