Motorist Shot in Joliet: Victim Expected to Survive
URGENT UPDATE: A motorist in Joliet is recovering after being shot in the head and leg by an unknown pedestrian early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 1:07 a.m. in the 600 block of Garnsey Avenue, according to the Joliet Police Department.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire and discovered spent shell casings in the street. Gunfire also struck a nearby residence, but fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants.
The victim, a 20-year-old male, arrived at a residence in the 500 block of Harwood Street shortly after the shooting, where he received help before being transported by paramedics to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Police learned that he was driving in the area of Garnsey Avenue and Columbia Street when he was shot.
Police Sgt. Dwayne English confirmed that the gunshot wounds are not life-threatening. However, the victim’s vehicle sustained damage from the gunfire.
