UPDATE: A 39-year-old man from Huntsville has been arrested in Blind River, Ontario, after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor and breaching a release order. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed the arrest took place on Friday, October 20, 2023, following a manhunt that began when he fled the Bracebridge area.

The man was originally placed under a release order in connection with six drug and weapons-related charges from November 2024. After cutting the monitor, he became wanted by authorities, prompting an urgent response from the East Algoma detachment’s community street crime unit and warrant apprehension teams.

During his arrest on Hanes Avenue, the suspect faced additional charges, including two counts of failing to comply with the release order, failing to attend court, and mischief under $5,000. He was scheduled for a bail hearing in Blind River on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding compliance with court orders and the challenges law enforcement faces when dealing with individuals under judicial supervision. The OPP is continuing to urge the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals who may be violating legal restrictions.

As the situation develops, community members are advised to stay informed and vigilant. Further updates are expected following the bail hearing, and authorities emphasize the importance of public cooperation in maintaining safety and order.
