Netanyahu Calls for Full Conquest of Gaza Amid Ceasefire Stalemate
UPDATE: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is intensifying military operations in Gaza as ceasefire negotiations reach an alarming impasse. Reports indicate that Netanyahu will convene a security cabinet meeting on Tuesday to advocate for the full “conquest of the Strip,” as the humanitarian crisis escalates and hostages remain unaccounted for.
Key Israeli officials have described the situation as critical, with one source stating, “The die is cast – we’re going for full conquest.” This aggressive stance comes as Hamas demands that the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza be addressed before resuming talks, further complicating the potential for peace.
The urgency is palpable, with 50 hostages still held in Gaza, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive. Disturbing images of hostages released by Hamas over the weekend have sparked outrage in Israel, with Netanyahu condemning the videos as a tactic to destabilize public morale. “They want to break us with these horrifying videos,” he stated.
International responses are mounting. Former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, emphasized the need for a change in negotiations, advocating for an all-or-nothing approach to secure the release of all hostages simultaneously. “We have a plan to end the war and bring everyone home,” Witkoff asserted, warning that failure would result in accountability.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening. The World Health Organization reported alarming malnutrition rates, with thousands of children under five requiring treatment. The Hamas-controlled Government Media Office stated that 600 truckloads of aid are necessary daily to alleviate the hunger crisis, yet only an average of 84 trucks have arrived in recent days.
The Israeli government faces mounting pressure from families of hostages and retired security officials, urging a reevaluation of military strategies. An open letter signed by hundreds of former security leaders called for Trump to encourage a ceasefire, reflecting a growing sentiment that the war has lost its justifiable cause.
As tensions escalate, the Israeli public remains divided. Opinion polls indicate a strong desire for peace and the safe return of hostages, with 38% of Israeli Jews believing it is impossible to disarm Hamas, while 57% think it is achievable.
Looking ahead, Netanyahu’s next moves will be crucial. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for intervention becoming louder. As the humanitarian situation deteriorates and military objectives are debated, the path forward remains uncertain.
