New Bandshell Opens at Sugarbowl Park in Fort Erie, Enhancing Community Life
URGENT UPDATE: A brand-new bandshell has just been completed at Sugarbowl Park in Fort Erie, promising to transform the community’s recreational offerings year-round. This exciting addition follows the recent launch of a modern splash pad, signaling a new era of outdoor activities for residents.
The bandshell, located on the north side of the park near Central Fire Station, is now operational and available for public reservations. Town communications manager Kevin Beauchamp confirmed that the concrete pad is currently curing, with completion of an asphalt path and site restoration expected within the next two weeks, weather permitting.
This project, approved in 2023, carries a total cost of $275,000. Funding sources include a generous $55,000 donation from the Fort Erie Lions Club and $20,000 from the Fort Erie Underwater Recovery Unit. Additionally, a public realm infrastructure grant from Niagara Region contributed $70,000 to this initiative.
Ward 1 Coun. George McDermott expressed enthusiasm about the selection of the site, noting its open spaces and picturesque scenery, which enhance the park’s walkways and ponds. He stated, “There will be great opportunities to have concerts and movie nights out there,” highlighting the cultural enrichment this new facility will bring to the area.
The bandshell is just one of several recent upgrades at Sugarbowl Park, which also features a newly constructed playground and an off-leash dog park. In 2001, a T-33 Red Knight airplane was installed at the park, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71 is currently fundraising for its restoration.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these new amenities, which aim to foster community engagement and provide fun, family-friendly activities. With the bandshell ready to host events, Sugarbowl Park is set to become a vibrant hub for entertainment in Fort Erie.
Stay tuned for more updates as the park continues to evolve, and don’t miss the chance to experience these exciting changes firsthand!
