New Grocery Stores Open in Metro Vancouver: What You Need to Know!
UPDATE: Metro Vancouver is experiencing a grocery store boom, with several new locations either recently opened or set to launch in 2026. This surge is transforming how residents shop for their essentials, making it crucial for locals to stay informed about these exciting developments.
Fresh St. Market has officially opened its doors in Kitsilano on December 12, 2023. This new store is not just another grocery outlet; it boasts the largest hot bar in the chain and aims to be a vibrant community hub. According to Palle Knudsen, vice-president of retail operations, “We’re creating a vibrant new food experience for the Kitsilano community.” Expect a grand opening celebration in 2026 at 2823 W. 4th Ave., Vancouver.
In a significant move, Costco has launched its first Business Centre in British Columbia located at 1085 Tanaka Crt., New Westminster. Covering a staggering 146,000 sq. ft., this center caters primarily to businesses, offering commercial appliances and a range of products not found in typical Costco stores. Regular members can still shop here, and they can enjoy next-day delivery within a designated area.
Local favorite, Stong’s Market, has expanded with a new location in Surrey at 9686 137th St. #201. This independent grocer continues to thrive, providing unique shopping options for residents.
Looking ahead, No Frills is gearing up to open a new store in Burnaby at 4780 Hastings St. Early 2026 is when customers can expect to see the discount supermarket chain in their neighborhood. A post on their Instagram excitedly teased, “BURNABY, get ready! Something HUGE is dropping soon!”
Also on the horizon is a new Sungiven Foods location in Richmond, set to open early next year at 103-8119 Park Rd.. As confirmed by Alex Wang, head of operations, “The new One Park location represents the next step in our local growth.”
One of the most anticipated openings is the T&T Supermarket at Gilmore Place in Burnaby. Spanning 55,000 sq. ft., this store will offer a full range of Asian groceries and prepared foods. However, the opening has been delayed due to construction issues, with a new date yet to be announced.
Lastly, Costco’s South Surrey location at 1891-1947 164th St. is another eagerly awaited development. While “opening soon” might be a stretch, plans for a gas station and extensive parking facilities indicate that Costco is committed to expanding its footprint in the region.
This grocery store expansion is a game changer for the Metro Vancouver area, providing new options for residents and enhancing community engagement. Stay tuned for updates as these new locations prepare to welcome customers!
