Nickeil Alexander-Walker Shines with Career-High Stats for Hawks
UPDATE: Nickeil Alexander-Walker is having a breakout season with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging career-highs in every significant stat category. In a thrilling matchup against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, Alexander-Walker scored 31 points, showcasing his significant growth as a player in just the first few months of the season.
Alexander-Walker, 27, from Toronto, is proving to be a crucial asset for the Hawks. He is currently averaging 20.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.6 blocks per game, all career bests. After Saturday’s 134-117 loss to the Raptors, he credited his success to the team’s supportive environment and his commitment to improvement.
“Little, small deeds, over time become big when you add them all up,” said Alexander-Walker, who joined the Hawks in the off-season.
Selected 17th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Brooklyn Nets, Alexander-Walker’s journey has seen him play for multiple teams before landing a lucrative $62 million contract with Atlanta on July 6, 2025. His transition has been smooth, thanks in part to the warm reception from teammates and coaches.
“It’s really more than me going out there and putting up numbers,” he stated. “I’m a hard critic on myself, and (Hawks coaches and players) allow me to make mistakes and say ‘keep being aggressive.’”
Hawks head coach Quin Snyder praised Alexander-Walker’s professionalism and growth. “He’s given us a voice both on and off the court,” Snyder emphasized during his pre-game news conference. “Just a level of professionalism that he brings, a work ethic, all those intangibles that make him a special player.”
As one of the key players on a young Hawks team, with an average age of 23.79 years, Alexander-Walker’s influence is especially vital with four-time All-Star Trae Young missing long stretches of the current season.
Looking ahead, the Hawks will face the Raptors again on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena, providing Alexander-Walker another chance to showcase his skills and leadership. His ongoing performance will be critical for the Hawks as they aim to solidify their position in the league.
This report underscores the impact Alexander-Walker is having in his new role and the excitement surrounding his development, making him a player to watch in the coming games. Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses!
