North Star Air Launches Flights from Kenora to Thunder Bay Jan. 15
BREAKING: North Star Air is set to revolutionize travel in northwestern Ontario with the launch of a direct flight service between Kenora and Thunder Bay starting on January 15, 2026. This new route will significantly reduce travel time from approximately 5.5 hours by road to just one hour in the air, providing a crucial transportation link for residents.
The Kenora Airport Authority announced this exciting partnership with North Star Air as part of their ongoing efforts to restore commercial airline services after the exit of Bearskin Airlines in May 2024. This new air service has been highly anticipated, especially following the completion of an air service feasibility study conducted in collaboration with the three affected communities—Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances.
“This partnership marks a pivotal milestone for the Kenora Airport and our community,” stated Ryan Reynard, chairman of the Kenora Airport Authority. He emphasized that the direct link to Thunder Bay will enhance access to essential services and foster economic growth.
Andrew Poirier, the mayor of Kenora, expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m ecstatic about the return of passenger air services. Our highways are often unreliable and dangerous, limiting travel options for residents.” He noted that the new flights will not only boost tourism but also improve access to healthcare services, as many residents rely on Thunder Bay for medical appointments.
The new air service will meet urgent community needs by connecting Kenora’s population of about 15,000 residents to Thunder Bay. It promises to streamline travel for business professionals and residents alike, potentially saving hours of commuting time. “You save a day by flying instead of driving,” Poirier added, highlighting the economic implications of this service.
North Star Air, a well-established Canadian airline, is committed to enhancing regional connectivity. “This new route is a reflection of our dedication to helping communities stay connected and supporting economic growth across the region,” said Jeff Stout, president and COO of North Star Air.
As the launch date approaches, the Kenora Airport Authority will host a special event on December 20, 2025, to celebrate this new service with North Star Air, aiming to engage the community and local stakeholders.
This significant development not only promises to improve local transportation but also aims to stimulate economic activity, making it an essential service for the residents of Kenora and surrounding areas. As officials prepare for the launch, the community eagerly anticipates the positive impacts this new air route will bring.
Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches, and be prepared to book your flights for quicker, safer travel between Kenora and Thunder Bay!
