Nova Scotia Announces 66 New Child-Care Spaces in Colchester, Inverness
BREAKING: Nova Scotia is set to expand child-care options significantly with the addition of 66 new spaces in Colchester and Inverness counties. The Lower Onslow Preschool Association in Masstown is creating 52 spaces for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, while the East Coast Early Learning Association in Margaree will add 14 toddler and preschool spaces.
This urgent update comes as the province aims to improve child-care accessibility, with the new spaces expected to open soon. The Lower Onslow Preschool Association has been awarded $771,000 for its project, anticipating a launch in spring 2024. Meanwhile, the East Coast Early Learning Association secured $393,000, with its new facilities projected to be operational this fall.
The funding for these initiatives is part of a larger plan, as Nova Scotia has successfully negotiated a five-year extension to its child-care agreements with the federal government, worth over $1 billion. This funding will ensure support continues until March 31, 2031, significantly enhancing the province’s child-care infrastructure.
These new child-care spaces are crucial for families in the region, addressing the growing need for quality early childhood education and care. With many parents in Colchester and Inverness facing challenges in securing affordable child-care options, this initiative represents a vital step towards supporting working families and promoting child development.
Officials are encouraging families to stay tuned for more updates as these facilities prepare to welcome children. As the demand for child care continues to rise, the province’s commitment to early learning opportunities is more important than ever.
This development not only highlights the government’s investment in child care but also reflects a broader commitment to community support and child welfare across Nova Scotia.
