URGENT UPDATE: Oak Bay police have seized a rifle from a man found sleeping in his vehicle at Cattle Point on August 31. The incident unfolded when an officer noticed a vehicle parked without a front licence plate in a stall designated for boat trailers.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered the male driver asleep in the front seat, unable to provide a driver’s licence or vehicle registration. The situation escalated when the driver disclosed that a firearm was present in the vehicle. Officers quickly observed the buttstock of a rifle within the driver’s reach.

The weapon, identified as an unloaded lever-action rifle, was not secured with a trigger lock, raising serious safety concerns. Additionally, nine rounds of ammunition were found stored in a sleeve attached to the rifle’s buttstock.

Police arrested the individual for unsafe storage of a firearm and issued a violation ticket for the missing front plate. After processing, he was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
