OCUSD Reveals 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Today

UPDATE: The Oregon Community School District No. 220 (OCUSD) has just announced the highly anticipated second class of inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame, set to honor outstanding athletes and coaches this weekend. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with a special introduction at halftime during the Oregon-Winnebago home football game on Friday night, October 17, 2025.

This year’s honorees include a remarkable lineup of coaches and athletes who have left an indelible mark on Oregon’s athletic legacy. The committee extends its gratitude to all those who submitted nominations last spring, making this celebration possible.

Inductees include:
– **Coaches**: Paul (Pat) Holland, Art Carlson, and John Bothe, recognized for their long-standing contributions to Oregon High School sports.
– **Athletes**: Nelson Potter, a Major League Baseball player who pitched in the 1944 World Series; Rob Urish, a multi-sport athlete from the early 1960s; Bob Barnett, who excelled in basketball and baseball in the late 1970s; and Alana Krick (Murray), a standout in volleyball, basketball, and track during the early 1980s.
– **Friend of Athletics**: John Cain, a longtime athletic trainer whose dedication has supported countless athletes over the years.
– **Teams**: The 1950-51 and 1951-52 Mt. Morris Boys Basketball team, known as the “Whiz Kids” for their impressive record of only one loss each season; the 2000 Oregon Football team, which finished as state runner-up; and the 2006 Oregon Volleyball team, reaching the Supersectional final with a remarkable 36-4 record.

Vern Welp, former athletic director at MMHS and OHS, will also be honored during this momentous event, highlighting his significant influence on Oregon’s athletic programs.
