Ogle County K9 Fundraiser Ball Set for Nov. 1—Tickets Selling Fast!

UPDATE: The highly anticipated Ogle County K9 Fund Bark and Whine Ball is just around the corner, scheduled for November 1 from 5-10 p.m. at the River’s Edge Experience in Oregon, Illinois. This urgent community event is set to support the local K9 Unit, and tickets are selling out fast—only 250 tickets are available!
The evening will feature live music by The Vodka Boys, mouthwatering food from Ralfie’s BBQ, a silent auction, and an exciting 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will directly aid the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, which includes Deputy Kyle White and his partner K-9 Gator, as well as Deputy Ali VanVickle and K-9 Saint.
The K9 program incurs significant costs, with initial expenses ranging from $14,000 to $16,000 per dog, covering food, veterinary care, and training. Notably, the K9 unit relies entirely on donations and community support, having recently established itself as a 501c3 nonprofit. Deputy VanVickle expressed the need for broader community engagement: “We wanted to fund raise on a bigger scale,” she said.
As of now, approximately half of the tickets have been sold, highlighting the community’s eagerness to support their law enforcement and K9 teams. “We expect it to sell out,” VanVickle added, urging locals to act quickly.
The K9s, equipped for both narcotics detection and locating missing persons, play a crucial role in public safety. They have assisted in various operations alongside federal agencies, including the DEA and U.S. Marshals Service. Deputy White noted, “We enjoy putting in the time with our dogs, and it’s seemed to work out pretty well.”
In addition to their law enforcement duties, these K9s significantly enhance community outreach. They participate in school visits and public demonstrations, fostering a positive relationship with local youth. “Community outreach is the best part,” VanVickle said. “Kids often express interest in becoming K9 handlers themselves.”
The fundraising event is not just about raising money; it’s a chance for the community to connect with their local heroes and understand the critical role these K9s play in keeping the area safe. The event is designed to raise awareness about the fact that K9 expenses are not covered by the Sheriff’s budget, but by the generosity of the community.
Tickets for the Bark and Whine Ball can be purchased at the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Merlin’s Greenhouse & Flowers, and Cork & Tap. As the clock ticks down to November 1, the urgency to secure a ticket grows. Don’t miss your chance to support this vital program!
Stay tuned for further updates and get ready to be part of a night that celebrates community, safety, and the incredible partnership between law enforcement and their K9 companions.
