Oilers Rally to Defeat Sharks 4-3 in Overtime Thrill
UPDATE: The Edmonton Oilers pulled off a stunning comeback, defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in overtime on January 29, 2026. This electrifying victory unfolded just over a minute into regulation when Zach Hyman scored, setting the stage for an intense battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The Oilers faced a daunting challenge early in the game. The Sharks capitalized, with Collin Graf netting a goal just 26 seconds into the match, followed by Adam Gaudette doubling their lead less than two minutes later. The Sharks continued to dominate, with Michael Misa scoring his second goal of the season at the 11:40 mark of the first period, pushing the score to 3-0.
However, the Oilers refused to back down. Leon Draisaitl sparked the comeback with a goal and two assists, while Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard each contributed with goals of their own. Bouchard’s crucial goal came in the final minute of regulation, leveling the score at 3-3 with just 58.1 seconds left on the clock, igniting the home crowd at Rogers Place.
The Oilers outshot the Sharks 32-20, showcasing their determination to claw back into the game. Despite a sluggish start, they regained control, demonstrating resilience and skill. Connor Ingram made vital saves, stopping 17 of 20 shots faced, while Yaroslav Askarov recorded 28 saves for San Jose.
A pivotal moment for San Jose occurred when Barclay Goodrow appeared to score a fourth goal in the second period, but the referee ruled it out due to goalie interference, keeping the Oilers in the game. The Sharks struggled on the power play, finishing 0-for-2.
This match not only thrilled fans but also marked a significant milestone for Macklin Celebrini, who recorded his 90th assist on Graf’s opening goal. At just 19 years and 230 days old, he is now the second-youngest player in NHL history to achieve this feat, only behind Sidney Crosby.
As the Oilers celebrate this dramatic win, attention will quickly turn to their next challenge. They will host the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, aiming to keep this momentum alive. Meanwhile, the Sharks are set to visit the Calgary Flames on the same day, looking to bounce back from this narrow defeat.
Stay tuned for further updates as the NHL season unfolds, with both teams eager to make their mark in the coming games. This thrilling matchup has left fans buzzing, reminding everyone of the unpredictable nature of hockey.
