Oilers Sign Jack Roslovic to Urgent One-Year, $1.5M Deal

UPDATE: The Edmonton Oilers have just announced the signing of forward Jack Roslovic to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, making waves as the NHL season kicks off. This move is crucial as the Oilers face off against the Calgary Flames tonight, marking an urgent addition to their roster.
Roslovic, who netted 22 goals and 17 assists in 81 games last season with the Carolina Hurricanes, adds valuable depth to the Oilers’ lineup. The 28-year-old American also contributed a goal and three assists in nine playoff games, showcasing his potential for impact in high-stakes situations.
Oilers’ general manager Stan Bowman confirmed during a press conference last night that discussions with Roslovic’s camp have been ongoing since the summer. “We’ve been in touch the entire time,” Bowman stated. “If he wants to come here and kind of bet on himself, we’d love to have him.” This reflects a strategic choice as the Oilers navigate their salary cap constraints while enhancing their competitive edge.
Roslovic, a right-shot winger/centre, was drafted 25th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2015 NHL Draft. This signing marks his fifth NHL club, having also played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and Hurricanes. With a total of 102 goals and 158 assists across 526 career games, Roslovic is poised to become a key player in the Oilers’ quest for success this season.
This signing comes on the heels of significant roster moves, including Mattias Ekholm‘s three-year, $12 million contract extension, and the recent seven-year, $49 million extension for defenseman Jake Walman. Star captain Connor McDavid also secured a two-season, $25 million deal, emphasizing the Oilers’ commitment to building a strong team.
Fans are eager to see how Roslovic integrates into the Oilers’ strategy as they seek to improve their standing this season. The urgency of these moves reflects a determination to capitalize on the current roster’s potential and make a significant impact in the 2023-2024 NHL season.
As the Oilers take the ice tonight, all eyes will be on Roslovic to see if he can deliver on the promise that led to his signing. This is a developing story; stay tuned for more updates on Roslovic’s performance and the Oilers’ season progress.
