One Dead as Two Small Planes Collide in Ontario Airspace

UPDATE: One person has been confirmed dead following a devastating collision between two small planes in southeastern Ontario. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m., above Martintown in South Glengarry, about 100 kilometers southeast of downtown Ottawa.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that one of the planes safely landed after the collision, while the other was discovered in a wooded area. Tragically, the pilot of the downed aircraft, a Cessna 172, was found deceased at the scene. Authorities identified the victim as the sole occupant of the plane, which had recently departed from the Cornwall-Summerstown Regional Airport.

Emergency responders from Cornwall SDG Paramedics were dispatched promptly, and a Search and Rescue technician parachuted to the location to assist in the operation. The OPP has confirmed that an investigation is underway, led by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
