UPDATE: Oregon’s Sarah Eckardt has just wrapped up her performance at the Class 1A State Meet, finishing in a tie for 29th place after a solid round of 79 at Red Tail Run in Decatur on Saturday. This impressive score marked the 13th-best of the day, showcasing her resilience as she shot a remarkable 37 on the back nine.

Eckardt concluded the tournament with a two-day total of 169 (+25), following a challenging opening round of 90 on Friday. Her performance today not only highlights her skill as a senior athlete but also underscores the competitive spirit of the event.

Meanwhile, Dixon’s Rachel Drew finished tied for 71st with a total score of 187 after shooting 92 and 95 across the two days, reflecting the high stakes and pressure of state-level competition.

In volleyball, the action was intense at the recent Dixon Invite, where Sterling edged out Dixon in a nail-biting match, winning 21-15, 19-21, 15-9. The Duchesses struggled, finishing the day with a 1-3 record after also losing to Naperville Central and Galesburg but securing a single victory against Oak Forest.

The Eastland Cougars also faced challenges at the Huntley Tournament, going 2-3 despite standout performances from Trixie Carroll, who recorded 64 kills, seven blocks, and 32 digs. The Cougars’ efforts included victories over McHenry and Hononegah, showcasing their competitive edge.

In cross country, Lacey Updike shone for Sterling, finishing 13th with a personal record of 20:28.10 at the Sterling Invitational. Sterling’s girls team secured fourth place overall, while the boys’ team saw Charles Johnson take third with a time of 16:31.60, demonstrating the depth of talent across the board.
