Oswego Co-op’s Alli Wiertel Sets Course Record with 59!
BREAKING: In a stunning performance, Oswego Co-op’s Alli Wiertel fired a record-breaking 59 at the Plainfield North Invitational held at Whitetail Ridge on Thursday, capturing the medalist honors with an impressive seven-shot victory. This remarkable round saw Wiertel achieve 10 birdies—including seven on the back nine—and one eagle, finishing an astonishing 11-under par.
The Oswego Co-op team collectively shot a 302, securing second place behind Lincoln-Way East, which posted a score of 286. Wiertel’s record-setting achievement is not just a personal triumph; it places her firmly in the spotlight of high school golf, drawing attention from fans and scouts alike.
Teammates also contributed to the team’s performance with Kendall Grant finishing tied for 14th with a score of 77, followed by Annabelle Wiliams at 82 and Giselle Resendez with an 84. In a strong showing from Yorkville, Elaina Newman recorded the lowest round for her team at 90.
In boys’ golf action, the Oswego Panther Stableford saw Oswego East take first place with a score of 294, while Oswego followed closely at 300. Standout performances included Zach Johnson from Oswego East, who shot a 69 for second place individually, and Declan Chavez from Oswego, who tied for third with a score of 70. Other notable scores included Jack Malm at 71 in a tie for fifth and Carter Anderson with a 73 for eighth place.
The Sandwich Invitational crowned Morris as tournament champion with a score of 120, while Somonauk’s Alex Wold excelled as the individual champion with a score of 36. In this event, points were awarded based on performance, and Kai Kern scored 34 points to place second individually, while Nolan Oros finished tied for ninth with 25 points.
