UPDATE: The Oswego Police Department has issued 59 seat belt citations during its intensified traffic enforcement campaign over the Labor Day weekend. This urgent initiative aims to enhance road safety and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

As part of this crackdown, authorities also arrested one motorist for driving with a suspended or revoked license, made a warrant arrest, and issued eight citations for distracted driving along with three speeding citations. This multifaceted approach highlights the department’s commitment to protecting the community on the roads.

“Our goal through the Labor Day safety campaign was to make our roads safer and educate the public about the risks associated with impaired driving,” stated Oswego Police spokesperson Cathy Nevara in a recent news release.

The Oswego Police worked in conjunction with various law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day campaigns titled “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High, Get a DUI.” These efforts are part of broader statewide traffic enforcement strategies, including the ongoing “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The impact of such enforcement is vital, especially during holiday periods when road use increases and the risk of accidents rises. Authorities urge all drivers and passengers to buckle up and avoid distractions to ensure safety for everyone on the road.

As traffic enforcement continues, Oswego Police will remain vigilant in monitoring compliance and engaging with the community about safe driving practices. The next steps include further collaborations with local agencies to enhance public safety campaigns throughout the year.
