Ottawa Goes Wild as Blue Jays Win Game 1 of World Series 11-4
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays have ignited a wave of excitement in Ottawa after their stunning 11-4 victory over the LA Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series. Fans are rushing to support their team, with local businesses reporting a surge in demand for Blue Jays merchandise.
“We’ve seen a significant increase in customers since the Blue Jays made the World Series,” says Jesse Girardin, owner of Baseball Town on Bank Street. “Our jerseys have been flying off the shelves—there’s only one left right now!” His store is nearly sold out of Blue Jays apparel as fans clamor for jerseys and hats.
The excitement doesn’t stop at merchandise. Tickets to the World Series have become a hot commodity, with many fans struggling to secure their spots. Adam Hargraves, an Ottawa resident, managed to score tickets to Game 2 on Saturday night in Toronto, describing his experience as a stroke of luck. “I just refreshed Ticketmaster with about 15 minutes to go and got in the queue with around 1,200 people in front of me,” he told CTV News.
Hargraves, who participated in the Great Big Cookie Run earlier that day, plans to celebrate his victory at the Rogers Centre. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he stated, as he paid approximately $1,000 for a pair of nosebleed tickets. “I had to pull the trigger.”
Another local fan, Shannon Archer, a major in the Canadian Armed Forces, will also attend Game 2, but with a special role. She will be among 230 military members unfurling the Canadian flag in center field before the game. “The energy and excitement are going to be ecstatic,” Archer expressed. “To be at a World Series game carrying the flag is a throwback to my love for the game.”
Fans across Ottawa are filled with optimism following the Jays’ first win in the series. “I’m predicting Jays win in six games,” says Archer confidently. “They’re going to come out and win four games to two,” adds Girardin, echoing the sentiments of many local supporters.
As the Blue Jays continue their postseason journey, anticipation builds for Game 2. The atmosphere promises to be electric, with fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this thrilling series. “I can only imagine the feeling inside the stadium,” Hargraves remarked. “It’ll be overwhelming and emotional—similar to the intensity of the 2017 playoffs.”
With the Blue Jays dominating the conversation in Ottawa, local businesses are rallying behind the team, showcasing the powerful impact of sports on community spirit. The excitement is palpable, and fans are ready to cheer their team to victory in this historic World Series.
