Ottawa Golf Team Secures 2nd Place at IVC Invite with Strong Performance

BREAKING: Ottawa’s boys golf team has just claimed 2nd place at the Illinois Valley Central Invitational, held today at Arrowhead Country Club in Edelstein. The Pirates shot an impressive 313 as a team, finishing only behind the leaders, Dunlap.

Leading the charge for the Pirates, Bryer Harris delivered an outstanding performance, carding an even par 72 to secure 2nd place individually. Meanwhile, teammate Jacob Armstrong contributed significantly with a 76, finishing in 5th place. Other key scores came from James Threadgill with an 80 and Colt Bryson, who posted a counting score.

In other golf news, Morris finished with a score of 168 and Seneca followed closely with 173 at the Nettle Creek Golf Course. Cooper Thorson led Seneca with a solid 38, while teammates Raiden Terry (42), Ethan Hasselbring (46), and Cody Malak (47) contributed to their team’s efforts.

In the triangular match, Serena clinched victory over Earlville with a score of 166 to 174. The Huskers showcased remarkable teamwork with Payton Twait, Jaysin Johnsen, and Cash Raikes each posting scores of 41.

The excitement continues on the volleyball courts as well, with Serena bouncing back to defeat Hinckley-Big Rock in a thrilling 2-1 match. The game unfolded with scores of 22-25, 25-13, 25-18, showcasing standout performances from Kendall Whiteaker (10 kills, 2 aces) and Rebekah Shugrue (32 assists, 6 digs).

Meanwhile, Newark opened their LTC season with a commanding 2-0 win against India Creek, annihilating their opponents with scores of 25-4 and 25-4. The Norsemen dominated the match, powered by contributions from Rylie Carlson, Zoey Carlson, and Ella Bromeland.

As the sports scene heats up, Somonauk also triumphed over Leland with a 2-1 victory, proving their mettle in the LTC standings. The Bobcats were led by Shaynee King (4 kills, 16 digs) in a match that saw significant momentum shifts.

In boys cross country, Newark’s Teagan Britz shone brightly, finishing 3rd at the Genoa-Kingston Open with a time of 19:01. His strong performance highlights the rising talent within the Newark athletics program.
