BREAKING: The Government of Saskatchewan has just announced over $2.3 million in funding for more than 40 playground projects, including four schools in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division. This urgent initiative aims to enhance children’s recreational spaces, with $50,000 grants available for eligible projects.

The new program, launched in September 2025, supports parents and community groups in their efforts to build and upgrade play facilities on school grounds. Among the recipients, Ecole St. Anne has already benefitted from a $50,000 grant, reinforcing the crucial role that playgrounds play in childhood development.

Alana Ross, the Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport, emphasized the importance of playgrounds for early development: “That is why we are proud to support the efforts of parent and school community groups to ensure every child has a place to play.”

In addition to Ecole St. Anne, four more schools—Ecole Holy Cross, St. Catherine Community School, St. John Community School, and St. Michael Community School—are set to receive $50,000 each for playground upgrades. The project at Ecole Holy Cross has already been completed, demonstrating the immediate impact of this funding.

The Prince Albert Catholic School Division’s director of education, Lorel Trumier, expressed gratitude for the government’s support: “Five of our six elementary schools will receive the grant. We’re so pleased about that because it really makes a difference.”

Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000, matching what has been raised by parents and volunteer school councils through fundraising efforts. The application period for this program runs until February 25, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program is part of the Saskatchewan government’s broader commitment to fostering vibrant communities and supporting children and families. The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is collaborating with the government to deliver the program, with a total investment of $3.75 million annually over the next four years.

SPRA President Darcy McLeod noted the positive response to the grant: “The early interest in the School Playground Equipment Grant demonstrates the value and importance of recreation across our province.”

With playgrounds being a critical aspect of childhood development, this funding initiative not only supports school councils but also reinforces a community’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of children.

Parents and community members are encouraged to apply for this vital funding, ensuring that all children in Saskatchewan have safe and engaging spaces to play. Stay tuned for more updates on the impact of this program across the province.
