UPDATE: Over 300 prospective elves gathered in Calgary on Sunday for the annual Elf Rally, a key event that transforms volunteers into honorary elves for the upcoming holiday season. This community-driven initiative prepares these volunteers to deliver gifts and food hampers to over 900 families in need on Christmas Eve.

The excitement was palpable as participants donned festive outfits and sang carols, all while training for their vital roles. The Elf Rally, which has been a cherished tradition since 1983, has seen a remarkable surge in involvement. Last year, the organization reached out to 884 families, and President Scott Purley confirmed that this year, they aim to increase that number to 900 families.

“We started with just one visit down the street, and it has ballooned,” Purley told CTV News. “So many people want to help, and we’re proud to announce that we will have about 1,500 volunteers this year.” All deliveries are made in a single night, just like Santa Claus, making the effort even more special.

In addition to visiting families, the volunteers will also take time to spread joy at local hospitals and care centers on December 23, distributing teddy bears to patients. “It’s an amazing feeling being able to help somebody else,” Purley added, emphasizing the emotional impact of their mission.
