Owen Sound Fall Fair Concludes with Thrilling Demolition Derby

UPDATE: The 173rd Owen Sound Fall Fair wrapped up with an electrifying demolition derby on September 30, 2025, drawing a crowd of at least 2,000 fans to Victoria Park for the thrilling finale. Despite cool temperatures and intermittent rain, spectators filled the stands, marking a triumphant return to pre-pandemic attendance levels.
This year’s event showcased a vibrant mix of activities over its three-day run, including livestock shows, truck and tractor pulls, and even baby competitions. However, it was the demolition derby that truly captured the audience’s attention, featuring high-octane action that sent mud flying and adrenaline pumping.
Competitors like Chris Crannie and his 18-year-old son Preston took center stage in the popular bonestock competition. Chris emerged victorious, while Preston clinched third place, both displaying remarkable skill and enthusiasm. “I do it for the excitement,” Chris stated, his battered car still operational after the intense competition. “Rain or shine, the stands are always full here,” he added, underscoring the community’s unwavering support.
The event, presented by Edge Motorsports, kicked off with younger participants racing in power wheels and continued with figure-8 racing for teens. The night culminated in a junk run featuring compact SUVs and light-duty trucks, keeping the energy levels high for all attendees.
The Owen Sound Agricultural Society expressed satisfaction with the turnout, which mirrored pre-COVID levels. This was the fair’s first three-day event since 2019, a significant milestone for the community. The fair featured a child-friendly midway, its first since 2019, alongside an array of agricultural shows, including beef, dairy, sheep, and chickens, with over 100 entrants in the open beef show alone.
Local board members praised the community’s involvement, highlighting the impressive participation in events like the tractor pulls and livestock shows. The fair also offered engaging experiences like pie-eating contests and food trucks, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
As excitement continues to buzz around the successful fair, all eyes are on future events and what the Owen Sound community will bring next. The strong support for local traditions showcases the spirit of resilience and camaraderie among residents, making the Owen Sound Fall Fair a highlight of the year.
Stay tuned for more updates as we follow the aftermath of this exciting event and upcoming community gatherings.
