Passengers Trapped for Nearly 4 Hours After Power Line Strikes Bus
BREAKING: In a shocking incident early Sunday morning, approximately 30 passengers on a BC Transit bus were trapped for nearly four hours after a fallen oak tree brought down power lines onto the vehicle in Saanich. The alarming event occurred just after midnight on October 26, 2025, on Feltham Road, near the intersection with Cedar Hill Road.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud crack followed by an immediate power outage. “I was sleeping and heard a loud sound of snapping and falling,” recounted a nearby homeowner. “We saw an oak tree across the street fallen across the road and the power pole snapped in half, dragging power lines onto the city bus.”
As the chaotic scene unfolded, power lines tangled with the bus, effectively trapping passengers inside. Emergency services arrived promptly, instructing the driver and passengers to remain on board while waiting for BC Hydro crews to arrive. However, due to multiple incidents in the area, Hydro crews could not attend immediately.
BC Transit confirmed that passengers remained on the bus until just after 4 a.m.. A second bus was then dispatched to transport everyone to their destinations. “We appreciate the patience of those affected and thank the bus operator, emergency services, and BC Hydro for ensuring everyone’s safety,” BC Transit stated.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this stressful ordeal. However, the fallen power lines caused widespread power outages affecting 429 customers in the vicinity, with restoration efforts expected to continue throughout the day. As of noon Monday, around 1,640 BC Hydro customers remained without power after severe storms swept through the area on Saturday night.
The impact of this incident highlights the urgent need for community awareness regarding severe weather conditions and their potential dangers. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant as restoration efforts unfold.
For now, all eyes are on BC Hydro as they work to resolve the outages and restore power to affected areas. Expect further updates as this story develops.
