URGENT UPDATE: Peloton has just announced a recall affecting nearly 45,000 bikes in Canada due to a critical safety issue with faulty seat posts. This recall impacts 44,800 Peloton machines sold in Canada and over 833,000 units in the U.S. from 2020 through April 2025.

Health Canada issued the notice today, warning that the seat post assembly on the Original Series Bike+ could break during use, leading to a heightened risk of falls and serious injuries for riders. The affected bikes have model number PL02 and serial numbers that begin with the letter “T.”

While no incidents have yet been reported in Canada, the situation is alarming: in the U.S., there have been three reports of the seat post detaching while in use, with two resulting in injuries. Peloton is urging all users of the affected models to stop using their bikes immediately and contact the company for a free replacement seat post, which can be installed by the user.

For assistance, users can reach Peloton at 1-833-821-0099 or visit their website. The bikes were sold at Peloton stores, major retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods, and various online platforms for approximately USD $2,500 each.

This is not the first time Peloton has faced issues with their bikes. Earlier in 2023, the company recalled over 108,000 bikes in Canada due to a similar seat post problem, though no injuries were reported then. However, in the U.S. during that recall, 35 incidents were recorded, with 13 injuries, including severe cases like fractured wrists.

The urgency of this recall highlights the potential dangers faced by users. Peloton’s swift action demonstrates their commitment to customer safety, yet the situation raises concerns for current riders. As news of this recall spreads, affected users must take immediate action to ensure their safety.
