PISE Launches Urgent $150,000 Fundraising Drive for Active Schools

UPDATE: PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Education) has just announced a crucial fundraising campaign aimed at raising $150,000 by December 2023 to enhance physical activity for schoolchildren in Greater Victoria. As students prepare to return to class this fall, PISE is determined to ensure that children have increased access to inclusive, high-quality physical activity programs.
With the new school year approaching, PISE’s initiative is more urgent than ever. “Our school programs give thousands of students more opportunities to move, learn, and grow,” stated Chris Wright, Manager of Physical Literacy Development at PISE. The organization aims to support an additional 5,000 children through their programs, including 500 Indigenous students via partnerships with local school districts and Indigenous organizations such as the Songhees Nation and WSANEC Leadership Secondary School.
Last year, PISE connected with over 10,000 children and youth through its school programs and camps. The positive response from parents and educators highlights the program’s impact. “PISE’s lessons are well-structured, inclusive, and help inspire confidence in all our students,” said Luke Forand, a physical and health education teacher at George Jay Elementary.
Personal stories underscore the significance of PISE’s work. Wally Trotter, a 23-year-old who attended PISE’s summer camps, is a testament to the organization’s influence. He secured his first job at PISE’s fitness center in Grade 12 through their job journey program. His mother, Wendy Trotter, noted, “These experiences have built his self-confidence and leadership skills. PISE has been a vital part of his development, and we are grateful for their ongoing support.”
The urgency of this fundraising drive cannot be overstated. PISE hopes that with the community’s support, they can expand these essential programs to ensure every child is seen, supported, and inspired to move. As the clock ticks towards December, PISE is calling on the public to contribute to this vital cause, reinforcing the importance of physical literacy for a healthier future generation.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as PISE works tirelessly to achieve its fundraising goal and make a lasting impact on the lives of children in Greater Victoria.
