Premier Kinew Maintains Strong Approval Amid Election Buzz

UPDATE: Premier Wab Kinew of Manitoba is displaying confidence in his leadership as he enjoys an impressive approval rating of 63%, according to new polling data released today. Kinew’s assurance comes amidst speculation about the upcoming election scheduled for October 2027.
In a news conference held earlier today in north Winnipeg, Kinew announced the completion of a newly paved road benefiting the Sikh Society of Manitoba, the largest temple in the city. His lively interaction with reporters, including some playful sparring, reflects his current popularity and the support his government continues to receive.
The latest Probe Research poll indicates that Kinew’s NDP government still enjoys a commanding lead with 53% of voter support, a slight decrease from 57% in June. Notably, this figure surpasses the 45% share they captured in the 2023 election.
Kinew’s persistent approval rating is remarkable, with only 28% of respondents disapproving of his performance, giving him a substantial net approval rating of +35%. This trend aligns with earlier findings from the Angus Reid Institute, which reported Kinew leading all Canadian premiers with a 61% approval rating earlier this month.
While Kinew basks in the glow of public favor, the opposition party, the Progressive Conservatives, led by Obby Khan, faces challenges of their own. The Tories are currently experiencing a dip in support, with only 34% of respondents backing them, down from 42% in the last election. Khan’s approval rating stands at just 34%, indicating a growing disapproval of 39% among voters.
The Liberal party, meanwhile, is struggling to gain traction, with a mere 3% support rate. Interim leader Cindy Lamoureux faces a net negative approval rating of -14%, further solidifying the NDP’s stronghold in the province.
Despite the optimistic outlook for Kinew and the NDP, political analysts warn that the landscape can shift rapidly. Issues such as scandal, financial mismanagement, or public health crises could disrupt current trends. For now, Kinew seems unfazed, enjoying his time in the spotlight and engaging with the press as he navigates through these early years of leadership.
As Manitoba prepares for the next election, Kinew’s ability to maintain this approval rating will be crucial. Will the NDP continue to deliver on promises made during the campaign? Or will emerging challenges force Kinew to alter his approach? Only time will tell as the political climate evolves.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the next election date approaches.
