UPDATE: The E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts in Prince Albert was electrified last night as five remarkable artists were inducted into the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame. The gala, held on October 20, 2023, drew an enthusiastic crowd, including city council members and local arts supporters, celebrating the transformative power of creativity and mentorship.

The evening kicked off with a stirring performance by the Prince Albert Children’s Choir, setting the stage for a night dedicated to honoring artistic excellence. Among the inductees was Karen Langlois, who accepted awards on behalf of herself and her husband, Mike Langlois, unable to attend due to health issues. A heartfelt tribute from a close friend highlighted their decades-long impact on local theatre.

“It’s overwhelming, but what a lovely place to be on a Friday evening,” said Karen Langlois. “You have allowed us to keep teaching, making music, and creating musical theatre.” Her emotional remarks resonated deeply with attendees, showcasing the profound connection between the arts community and individual artists.

Another honoree, Dennis Adams, was introduced by his daughter, Amanda, who spoke passionately about his five-decade commitment to shaping the local music scene. “For more than 50 years, Dad has been a cornerstone of the Prince Albert music scene,” she declared. Adams acknowledged the community’s support while emphasizing the importance of keeping instruments in the hands of aspiring musicians through his Music Lives Here program.

“I really believe tonight is about the human spirit and positivity,” Adams stated, as the crowd erupted into applause upon his acceptance.

The evening also celebrated Christina Thoen, founder of Art & Soul Studio. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Thoen has inspired thousands of students. “Starting my school was about helping children, and adults, find their joy and realize that they too can create,” she explained, expressing her gratitude to the community for their unwavering support.

Visual artist Cheryl Ring, the final inductee, captivated the audience with her passionate speech about the significance of art in society. “Arts fills the bricks and mortar with passion, beauty, ideas, and conversation,” Ring affirmed. Her words echoed the sentiment that art reflects our shared human experience.

Closing the ceremony, Arts Board chair Adrianna Gareau highlighted the record number of nominations this year. “Tonight we’ve seen how much our inductees give of their time, their passion, and their hearts,” Gareau said, underscoring the vital role the arts play in enriching Prince Albert.

As the night concluded, the audience rose for a final ovation, celebrating not just the achievements of these five incredible individuals, but the enduring strength and vibrancy of the arts community in Prince Albert. This gala serves as a poignant reminder of the impact that creativity and mentorship have on individuals and the community as a whole.
