UPDATE: The Prince Albert Raiders kicked off the 2025-26 WHL season with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades last night at the Art Hauser Centre. This win mirrors their closing triumph from the previous season, cementing their strong start as they battle for supremacy in the Western Hockey League.

In front of 3,031 fans, the Raiders showed resilience after falling behind early. Saskatoon’s Dominik Petr scored first, putting the Blades up 1-0 midway through the first period. However, the Raiders quickly regrouped, with forward Ty Meunier netting the game-winning goal early in the third period.

“It’s obviously nice to get the first one done with and get the W,” Meunier stated. “We had typical first game jitters, but we built from there.”

The Raiders’ scoring was bolstered by goals from Aiden Oiring, Daxon Rudolph, and Oli Chenier. Notably, Michal Orsulak, in his first WHL start, made an impressive 29 saves, playing a crucial role in the team’s penalty kill efforts.

“Orsulak made some great saves,” said Raiders head coach Ryan McDonald. “Whenever you have to kill that many penalties, your goaltender is a big part of it.”

The Raiders faced a challenging second period, having to kill several penalties, but they managed to turn the tide, scoring two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the third. Meunier’s early goal extended their lead to 3-1, but the Blades fought back with Zach Olsen closing the gap to 3-2. Chenier’s empty-netter sealed the game for the Raiders.

Looking ahead, the Raiders will face the Blades again in Saskatoon this Saturday at 7 p.m. Fans are eager to see if the Raiders can continue their winning streak and build on this promising start to the season.

This victory not only highlights the team’s potential but also showcases the depth of their young core, with players like Riley Boychuk and Jonah Sivertson proving to be valuable assets.

Stay tuned as the season unfolds—this is only the beginning for the Prince Albert Raiders!
