Purcell Hockey Academy Names Val Manchak-Jensen as New Director
BREAKING: Purcell Hockey Academy (PHA) has just appointed Valeriia (Val) Manchak-Jensen as its new Academy Director, a pivotal move aimed at enhancing the training and development of student-athletes. This urgent update comes as PHA seeks to elevate its programming and operations under Val’s leadership.
Val, who previously served as the Head Coach for the 19U Girls’ Prep team during the 2024-25 season, will maintain her role as PHA’s Head Skills Coach while overseeing all aspects of the academy. Her structured, evidence-based approach focuses on individual growth, emphasizing skating mechanics, speed development, and conditioning, which are crucial for athletes aiming for collegiate and national team opportunities.
In her new role, Val will collaborate closely with Al Wozney, the General Manager of PHA, and the coaching staff to align training standards and improve communication. This is a significant step for the academy, as it aims to foster a competitive yet supportive culture that prepares athletes for the rigors of next-level competition.
Val’s impressive background as an elite multi-sport athlete includes accolades such as being a former world boxing cup champion and a world karate champion. On the ice, she is recognized as an IIHF world hockey champion and the first Ukrainian to play professional hockey in the United States. Her collegiate achievements include being named an ACHA All-American and winning a National Championship with Liberty University.
Known for her direct and honest feedback, Val is committed to raising program standards while prioritizing athlete growth, resilience, and accountability. Her coaching philosophy focuses on developing complete student-athletes in all aspects—physically, psychologically, and academically. She combines high expectations with structured training to ensure long-term growth and development for her athletes.
Val’s appointment is more than just a change in leadership; it represents a renewed commitment to excellence at Purcell Hockey Academy.
