Purple Rain Run Returns to Boost Comfort Care Program Funding
URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated Purple Rain Run is set to return on August 24, 2024, at Lakewood Park in Tecumseh, raising funds for the Transition to Betterness (T2B) Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program. This year’s event promises to be a vibrant celebration of life and resilience, featuring a lively 5K walk/run where participants will be doused in purple powder.
Event co-chair and Dr. Michelle Prince’s daughter, Sienna Francis, expressed her excitement, stating, “With the support of our incredible community, we raised an astounding $70,000 last year, and we aim to surpass that milestone this year.” Participants can join the run for an entry fee of $45, half the value of the cherished comfort totes that will be distributed.
The Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program, initiated by Prince in 2018, provides new chemotherapy patients at the Windsor Regional Hospital Cancer Centre with high-quality custom tote bags valued at $100. Each tote is filled with essential items to help patients manage the side effects of their treatment, curated based on Prince’s own cancer journey.
Francis emphasized the personal touch of the totes, stating, “My mother handpicked these items that were part of the tote she was given and added others she found beneficial along the way.”
Event co-chair Paige Wilcox highlighted the collective spirit, saying, “It means a lot to see everyone come together and bring a sense of awareness, but also, just celebrate a fun day where we can raise money for our passion project that we continue to champion for Michelle.”
Last year, the event attracted over 250 participants, and organizers are optimistic about surpassing this number in 2024. The Purple Rain Run not only supports a noble cause but also fosters community connection and awareness about the challenges faced by cancer patients.
As the event approaches, local residents and supporters are encouraged to participate and contribute to this critical initiative. Stay tuned for more updates as the date draws near, and prepare for a day filled with joy, energy, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
