BREAKING: The PWHL Vancouver has just wrapped up its first-ever two-day youth hockey camp, training 130 young female athletes aged six to 17 in North Vancouver. Held on August 14-15, 2023, at the North Shore Winter Club, the camp aimed to inspire the next generation of hockey stars and featured prominent players such as Ashton Bell, Kristen Campbell, Nina Jobst-Smith, and Jenn Gardiner.

This camp provided an enriching experience for participants, who paid $300 for comprehensive training. Under the leadership of head coach Brian Idalski, attendees engaged in on-ice training, fitness sessions, and leadership seminars designed to foster both skill and teamwork. “The kids were super enamored with meeting the players,” Idalski stated. “I really believe they do such a great job and lean into being role models. They know the impact they have.”

The camp divided participants into four age divisions: U11, U13, U15, and U18, delivering a “holistic look at the sport while also reinforcing values of teamwork and perseverance.” A memorable moment occurred when Bell paused her media availability to greet a group of starstruck girls, shouting, “It’s a PWHL player!” This interaction highlighted the profound impact of representation in sports, inspiring young athletes to dream big.

The excitement surrounding the PWHL Vancouver is palpable as the league prepares to launch its inaugural season this fall. Matches will take place at the iconic Pacific Coliseum, with practices held at the PNE Agrodome. The PWHL will expand its competitive spirit this season, joining forces with existing teams like the Toronto Sceptres and Boston Fleet, and welcoming new franchises including PWHL Vancouver and PWHL Seattle.

As anticipation builds, young athletes are already eyeing their next opportunities to train and develop under the guidance of professional players. Parents and fans alike are eager to see how this initiative will further empower and inspire future generations of female hockey players.
