PWHL Vancouver Signs Nina Jobst-Smith as Inaugural Player
BREAKING: PWHL Vancouver has just announced the signing of North Vancouver native and 2025 draft pick Nina Jobst-Smith to a two-year contract. Jobst-Smith, selected 19th overall in the recent draft, expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m so excited to be joining Vancouver and to have the opportunity to be a part of this amazing organization.”
The 24-year-old defender played last season for the University of Minnesota Duluth and has represented Germany in five IIHF Women’s World Championships. Her signing marks a significant milestone for both Jobst-Smith and the newly established team.
In addition to Jobst-Smith, PWHL Vancouver has secured Brianna Brooks and Madison Samoskevich, both drafted for the 2025-2026 season. Brooks, hailing from Whitby, Ontario, is notably the first player from Penn State University to be drafted into the PWHL. “Signing with PWHL Vancouver is a dream come true,” Brooks said. “I am beyond grateful and excited for what lies ahead.”
Madison Samoskevich, selected 39th overall, also shared her enthusiasm, stating, “Being part of this team’s first year in the PWHL is really special.” The 22-year-old previously played for the Bobcats at Quinnipiac University.
PWHL Vancouver is set to make its debut on November 21, 2025, against PWHL Seattle, kicking off its inaugural season at the Pacific Coliseum. The team will also utilize the PNE Agrodome as its practice facility.
The PWHL is entering its third season with its original six teams: Toronto Sceptres, Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Minnesota Frost, Boston Fleet, and New York Sirens, alongside the newly formed PWHL Vancouver and PWHL Seattle.
With these promising signings, PWHL Vancouver aims to make an immediate impact in women’s hockey. Fans and players alike are eager to see how this new franchise will shape the future of the league. Stay tuned for more updates as the season approaches!
