Raiders Surge to 6-4 Road Victory, Three Players Score First WHL Goals
UPDATE: In an electrifying showdown, the Prince Albert Raiders defeated the Regina Pats 6-4 on October 14, 2023, marking a significant road win that showcased the talents of new and veteran players alike. This victory is vital as the Raiders seek to build momentum early in the WHL season.
The Raiders kicked off the game with an aggressive start, although they struggled to capitalize on their initial power play. However, they found their rhythm quickly. At 7:49, rookie Brayden Dube scored his third goal of the season, receiving a perfectly timed pass from Riley Boychuk, despite a defender’s interference. As the game progressed, the excitement intensified. Newcomer Owen Corkish netted his first WHL goal at 11:48, tipping in a pass from Harrison Lodewyk. Moments later, Ben Harvey also celebrated his first WHL goal, spinning free from a defender at 16:01 and guiding Lodewyk’s assist into the net.
The second period saw a shift in momentum as the Pats clawed back, with Julian Maze and Caden Brown each scoring, narrowing the Raiders’ lead to just one goal by the end of the second frame. The scoreboard read 4-3 in favor of the Raiders, but the pressure was mounting.
Just seven seconds into the third period, Daxon Rudolph struck again for the Raiders, reinstating a two-goal cushion. The Pats responded fiercely, with Reese Hamilton scoring with a powerful shot through traffic at 17:27, bringing the game back to a nail-biting 5-4.
In a thrilling conclusion, the Raiders took advantage of an empty net, with Max Heise sealing the victory with a goal at 18:29, marking his first WHL goal. The final score stood at 6-4, with the Raiders outshooting the Pats 31-22.
Steele Bass made 18 saves, earning his first career WHL win with a save percentage of 0.818. Despite dressing three goaltenders this season, the Raiders have secured points in every game thus far. With Dube and Oiring both on three-game point streaks, the team appears poised for a strong season ahead.
