Riders Celebrate Grey Cup Win with Massive Parade in Regina
UPDATE: Thousands of fans flooded the streets of Regina, Saskatchewan today to celebrate the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ thrilling victory in the Grey Cup, marking the team’s fifth championship in the historic event’s 112-year history. The parade kicked off on November 21, 2023, along Albert Street, igniting a sea of green as enthusiastic supporters cheered for their heroes.
As the players made their way down the street, A.J. Ouellette led the charge, sporting a casual look with shirts optional. Fans lined the west side of Albert Street from 13th to 20th Avenue, eager for a glimpse of the coveted Grey Cup trophy. One die-hard supporter even donned a costume mimicking Ouellette, complete with a beard and a replica of Thor’s hammer.
“I’m a big fan. We’re big Rider fans. I’m a big A.J. fan. We’re so proud of the team winning the Grey Cup and bringing the fifth home for us,” the fan exclaimed, radiating excitement. The atmosphere was electric, with younger fans expressing their joy, stating, “Just coming out here and all the energy around it’s just a great thing. Seeing the players is amazing, and we got the ball that was in the Grey Cup game!”
The celebration wasn’t just about the victory; it was a moment reflecting the pride of Rider Nation. “They’re rare, so you have to treat it as if this is the greatest moment of your life, and it is for us at Rider Nation,” one fan shared, emphasizing the significance of this win.
Riders’ head coach Corey Mace was a highlight of the parade, rallying the crowd with chants of “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” Fans responded with enthusiasm, declaring that the Grey Cup feels right at home in Saskatchewan. “There’s something nostalgic and comforting about just bringing it home. I just feel like the Cup always belongs here,” reflected one jubilant supporter.
For many, this parade was the perfect way to spend a Tuesday afternoon. “The highlight of my day! Last night we saw the Grey Cup at the casino and were lucky enough to meet a few players. Winning the Cup in Winnipeg was almost as sweet as winning it at home,” one fan enthusiastically recounted.
This momentous celebration is a testament to the profound impact of sports on community spirit and pride. As the excitement continues to ripple through Regina, the sense of unity and joy among fans stands as a vivid reminder of the power of teamwork and local loyalty.
